ABSTRACT
This comprehensive study examined the effectiveness of five Teacher Education Institutions (TEIs) in Quezon Province, analyzing the performance and preparation of their graduates across multiple dimensions. Based on a mixed-methods research design with a sample of 50 graduates (10 from each of the five TEIs), the study revealed significant variations in graduate outcomes. Quantitative analyses demonstrated stark differences in key performance metrics. TEI D emerged as the top-performing institution, with graduates achieving the highest licensure exam pass rate (95%), highest 1-year retention rate (92%), and highest overall teaching competency ratings (averaging 4.5 out of 5). In contrast, TEI C showed the lowest performance, with a 79% licensure exam pass rate, 71% 1-year retention rate, and average competency ratings of 3.4. Statistically significant differences were found across multiple domains, including content knowledge (F = 4.400, p = 0.010), classroom management (F = 4.400, p = 0.010), and technology integration (F = 4.400, p = 0.010). Notably, a strong positive correlation emerged between program quality and graduate retention rates, particularly at 3-year (r = 0.94, p = 0.017) and 5-year (r = 0.94, p = 0.017) intervals. The findings suggest critical implications for teacher education reform. Institutions with comprehensive clinical experiences, culturally responsive coursework, and longer mentorship programs demonstrated superior graduate preparedness and long-term retention. The study highlights the urgent need for systematic improvements in teacher preparation programs, particularly in lower-performing TEIs, to ensure high-quality teaching workforce development and address potential educational inequities in the province.
